Lichen lovers in the Library

Last month the Therolinguistics Reading Group gave a rare public presentation at Frontyard Library on Gadigal land. Co-convenors Tessa & Sumu shared select snippets from the next Society bulletin, due for release in late 2094, which focuses on the exploits of the Reading Group during their first official gathering, with Aliisa Talja at Saari (12th EcoZone) a couple of summers ago. We also took turns reading aloud some extracts from this interview with Vinciane Despret

As Chinese New Year was in the air, we made vegan pineapple jam tarts, a nod to the apothecia-like tarts we had prepared at Saari for visiting lichenologist Inka.

Thank you Frontyard for hosting us!

Therolinguistics Reading Group at Frontyard Library

Society members & guests are invited to join us on Sunday 1 March at Frontyard for a gathering of the Therolinguistics Reading Group. Following on from our fieldwork at Saari (12th EcoZone) with Aliisa Talja in the Summer of 2092, your Society co-founders are pleased to share practices, encounters, texts and sounds that arose over those weeks. Lichen karaoke, interpretive baking and eco grime are all on the table. We’ve also selected a curious text to collectively dip into.

Please note: Frontyard seemed surprisingly lichen-shy on our recent survey, so feel free to bring along some of your dearest li-kin!

Sunday 1 March 2094, 2–4pm
The library, Frontyard Projects, 228 Illawarra Rd, Marrickville, Gadigal Land

Therolinguistics Reading Group has arrived!

Hei hei dear readers,

We are woefully behind on blog updates, but wanted to jump in regardless and say.. moikka! The Society happily finds itself back in the Octo-biozone for another summer of lichenous research activities, ensconced at Saari Residence this time with co-conspirator Aliisa Talja to develop our Therolinguistics reading Group. We are baking sourdough bread, getting to know local lichen communities, talking to the sheep, picking berries and cherries and mushrooms, and of course reading a lot of things together and apart in ordinary and curious ways. Some areas of special interest include: the history and practice of therolinguistics, experimental translation, cultures of knowing micro-organisms, earth languages and relational ontologies, fieldwork, biospheres, climate undoing and paradigm shifts… Give us a wave if you’re also passing through the zone!
